In this issue we learn more about Matt and his views on the Plumbing industry.
Why did you join the MPA SA as a board member and what do you enjoy about being on the executive board?
After 25+ years in the industry I thought it was a good time to give something back. I am passionate about the future direction of our industry. I also enjoy the interaction with our members, and it is always good to understand the challenges that face the plumbing industry.
Why did you choose Plumbing as a career? Have you had any challenges along the way?
I always enjoyed working with my hands and working outside. It seemed a good career choice that would always be required and also provide plenty of variety.
Today I don’t work with my hands or outside which is a bit humorous in that, what drew me to the trade is so far removed from what I do today.
What do you think are the current challenges in the plumbing industry and what do you think should be improved within the industry?
Maintaining knowledge on standards and compliance, unfair contracts that disadvantage subcontractors and inexperienced businesses operating in markets they don’t know.
What is your advice on someone looking at starting their own business?
Consider if the hours involved in running the business and doing the work is financially beneficial compared to working for a business and secondly know the market that you want to work in.
What do you do in your spare time?
Get outdoors- Camping, walking etc. Get to as many Crows games as possible.
What is your dream holiday?
France and Germany – I enjoy the history of Europe.
